§ 18-2-707. IMPOSITION OF PENALTIES.

  • (a)

    Authorized. If the fine for a violation notice has not been paid by the date of payment set forth on the violation notice and no notice of intention to stand trial for the violation has been filed within the time allowed, a formal notice of the violation shall be sent to the last-known address of the owner of the vehicle for which the violation notice was issued.

    (b)

    Penalty for failure to respond to the notice. If the person has not paid the citation within 15 days after the date of the notice issued under this section, the person is liable for a penalty of $10 for each month or fraction of a month that the citation remains unpaid, until the citation is paid.

    (c)

    Additional penalty. If the State Motor Vehicle Administration is requested to refuse registration or transfer of registration of the subject vehicle until the citation has been paid, an additional penalty of $15 shall be imposed.

    (d)

    In addition to other penalties. The penalties imposed under this section are in addition to the fines imposed.
