§ 3-2-1303. DUTIES OF THE DEPARTMENT.
(a)
In general. The Police Department shall have the general duty to safeguard the lives and safety of all persons within the county, protect property, and assist in securing to all persons the equal protection of the laws.
(b)
Enumerated duties. The general duties referenced in subsection (a) of this section include:
(1)
Preserving the public peace;
(2)
Detecting and preventing the commission of crime;
(3)
Enforcing the laws and ordinances of the state and county;
(4)
Apprehending and arresting criminals and persons who violate or are lawfully accused of violating laws and ordinances of the state and county;
(5)
Preserving order at public places;
(6)
Maintaining the safe and orderly flow of traffic on public streets and highways;
(7)
Serving documents as required by law;
(8)
Cooperating with and assisting local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies in carrying out their respective duties; and
(9)
Discharging its duties and responsibilities with the dignity and a manner that will inspire public confidence and respect.
