§ 21-3-101. DEFINITIONS.

  • (a)

    In general. In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.

    (b)

    Ambulance.

    (1)

    "Ambulance" means a vehicle operated for the primary purpose of transporting an ill, sick, or injured patient.

    (2)

    "Ambulance" includes a vehicle which is regularly operated or held out for providing commercial ambulance service in the county or to residents of the county.

    (c)

    Ambulance crew. "Ambulance crew" means no less than two qualified individuals, one of whom holds a currently valid permit as an attendant-driver, and the other of whom holds a currently valid permit as an attendant or attendant-driver.

    (d)

    Approving authority. "Approving authority" means the County Health Officer or the County Health Officer's designee.

    (e)

    Attendant. "Attendant" means a qualified individual who has a valid permit and is responsible for the care of the patients.

    (f)

    Attendant-driver. "Attendant-driver" means an individual who has a valid permit to perform the duties of an attendant in addition to driving an ambulance.

    (g)

    License. "License" means a document approved by the approving authority evidencing permission to use a specific vehicle as an ambulance.

    (h)

    Licensee. "Licensee" means the person to whom one or more ambulance vehicle licenses are issued.

    (i)

    Patient. "Patient" means an individual who is sick, injured, wounded, or otherwise incapacitated and helpless.

    (j)

    Permit. "Permit" means a document approved by the approving authority evidencing permission to perform the duties of an ambulance attendant or ambulance attendant-driver and issued to a qualified individual.

    (k)

    Permittee. "Permittee" means an individual who has qualified and been issued a permit to perform the duties of an attendant or attendant-driver.

    (l)

    Person. "Person" does not include a governmental body.

    (m)

    Qualified. "Qualified" means an individual who is currently certified in emergency medical technician ambulance or American Red Cross advanced first aid and emergency care or equivalent training as acceptable to the approving authority.
