§ 18-2-505. YIELDING TO FIRE DEPARTMENT AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL VEHICLES.

  • (a)

    In general. A person operating a vehicle may not obstruct any emergency medical, firefighting, and rescue vehicles in the county proceeding to a fire or other emergency incident.

    (b)

    Requirement to yield. On being warned of the approach of an emergency medical, firefighting, or rescue vehicle, the operator of a vehicle:

    (1)

    Shall immediately give the emergency medical, firefighting, or rescue vehicle the right-of-way;

    (2)

    Shall stop; and

    (3)

    May not continue on until the emergency vehicle is 500 feet distant from the operator in the direction the emergency vehicle is moving.

    (c)

    No standing near emergency vehicle. A vehicle may not be parked or allowed to stand within 300 feet of an emergency medical, firefighting, or rescue vehicle while the emergency vehicle is attending a fire or other emergency incident.

    (d)

    Penalty. A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor.
